Linnea 'Ea' quilts...

Quilt details Name, Recipient, Size, Start/Finished date, Pattern and Fabrics used: Philip's color blocks quilt (sixth color block quilt out of twelve) For Philip Böckelman (Camilla Böckelman and Kalle Niemimaa's first child) 106 x 106 cm (length x height). timeline color blocks started in May of 2017 quilt tops done by the end of November 2017 this quilt was basted 21.11.2018, quilted between 30-31.12.2018 and bound on 31.12.2018.  label embroidered 9.3.2019. shipped 11.3.2019. Pattern was my own color block quilt pattern.  About the fabrics used for the quilt top The same as for the rest of the color block quilts, which means that each color block has 36 different fabrics in 5x5 cm pieces. 36 x 9 colors (+ 36 black and white that made blocks I ended up not using) means  a total of 324 (+36) different fabric pieces . It just like they say, ”I had such great plans, and then...” In my case, it involved a bus. A small toy one, thankfully, but those Fisher Price yellow school busses sure are HEAVY. I’m talking about this one, specifically: In the back you can see my Defiant quilt top, just waiting to be sandwiched. THAT was what I actually had planned for the evening. I had backing and batting ready to go, I had gotten all the prep work done ahead of the evening’s sewing course. Instead, I got to do this: Spend a few hours at the ER. (If you’re Finnish, that waiting number is funny, because the emergency number in Finland is 112. Just like the States have 911.) Anyway, what happened was that my 3 yo son threw the bus on me. Specifically, the toe closest to my big toe on my left foot. And I’m sitting here, just hoping it isn’t broken, but even so it hurts like a ... Here’s to hoping your Thursday evening is a bit better than mine!

#linneaeaquiltsdefiant2019 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just wanted to jot down a few thought about the layout I've planned for the Defiant quilt. I had this thought that I could make a more "modern" layout with the blocks I had made, and I tried searching on Pinterest for ideas concerning "modern" layouts for both quilt tops and backings. I sketched out a few mock-ups on paper, but then I made a final one using Paint (yeah, I'm old school, because I don't have Adobe Illustrator or the like) just so I would have it as a file. I didn't have the time then to color in all the areas in the quilt blocks to directly correspond with the ones I've already made, so that's why they are in black and white. But you can at least see what my plan is, and that's the main thing. I'm a bit unsure still about what I would like to have the backing to look like, but I'm hoping it'll come to me. Not having a pieced backing would be nice

The semi-official theme I've kinda chosen for my focus this year is  hand-sewing . Lots of American bloggers seem hard on having these "words of the year", but I think I'm gonna stick to my "crafting themes of the year" instead ;) I already have lots of projects in my WIP:s to start with that hand-sewing;  R is for Rita , the  Second Christmas quilt , the  Discovery quilt  (of the Hand Pieced QAL), the  Sashiko quilt , the  Summer Kingfisher quilt . Some of them I've started on, and some are still waiting for the others to get finished so I'll get more room to work on them. Lots have also happened on the quilting front since January ended, and I haven't been able to sit by the computer and write because of the slipped disc in my spine.
