Trapped in purple

This post has nothing to do about anything important, and a lot to do with something very random occurring. Well, tomorrow is the day when my folkdance group celebrates it's 39th year, and naturally I've been trying to decide which dress I want to wear for the occasion. So, because I had - like right now - some spare time, I decided to pick out my options from the wardrobe. The first dress I tried on is a purple satin one that I bought second hand for 4 euros this winter. Pulled it on. Started to pull up the zipper. And it got stuck. And then it broke. And I couldn't get it off. No movement, in either direction. None whatsoever . And I'm still wearing it, because even when I phoned Micke and asked him to come home and help me take the whole thing off.... it just wasn't possible. Not without cutting out the zipper, anyway. So now, I'm sitting and blogging in our sofa, waiting for tango practice to come up. In the violet dres...

The people have googled, and found my blog via...

....  photos of Ikea 365+ teacup . I think mine look rather dashing at 5th position. This is because of my post about t-t-tea . ...  photos of IKEA Tolsby frame.  Here, I found a photo from the post were I did some IKEA-hacking of the Tolsby frame into a earring display . It was on the 6th google-page. Now I'm beginning to wonder. Should I feel proud here, or become thoughtful? Because the other search words on the blogger statistics page (you can check your own via your own blogger-page) just doesn't make any sense. At least not to me. And Goddess knows what google thinks makes sense here on my blog? Have you looked through your statistics page yet? Or is it just good for laughs, in your opinion?

Monday morning dragon hair

Image
Well, this certainly is a truth about me, but it's not such a huge one I thought I could get away with it on the Thursday post. I have dragon hair. Dragon hair is when you have normal hair that's secretly dreaming that it's a DRAGON! This is exactly like I picture what the artist Edward Monkton  (uuh, check out the Madness Hamsters and Pinguin of Death) means in this card that he's drawn: Edward Monkton's "Hair". So, pretty much every morning, I wake up to this: Proud dragon parted in the middle. Dragon hissing with raised hackles. Dragon after calm flight. Dragon on the side. Tired and squirmy dragon. Yes, that's 100% morning me. In the last photo I could barely keep my eyes open and mouth shut (yaaaaawn!) long enough for the phone to take the photo. Dragon hiding in plain sight. There's always the last photo that makes you surprised. Thank you Ida for lending me your straightening iron! Now,...

Bad news

There's a lot of quotes flying around the internet that are somehow related to bad news and such. I will not quote any, because a while ago I heard someone say how "you can quote famous sayings and people all you want, but that doesn't make you any smarter". This really made me more cynic. And I think it's bad, because I don't want to become a bitter and depressed woman. But what I'm gonna rant about today is the fact that somehow bad news still always manage to come in triplicates. First, I lost my laptop. Accidentally, but non the less still a big catastrophe. Especially since it will take a long time for me to get it replaced with a new one. Then I heard that the group I dance tango in might not have locale for us dancers next year, and thus all that lovely group activity (all the boogie woogie, lindy hop and argentine tango) will cease. And today, I found out that my favorite café here in Turku, Bossaliina , will also cease to exist. Which a...

Advantage

Image
Early morning adventure in our kitchen. Mikael is going to be away with the boys for the entire weekend. They went to the Aland Islands, to Mariehamn. There, they're going to hold a product demonstration for the thing they've been coding on the whole summer. I hope it goes well for them. * holding my thumbs * Meanwhile, I'm going to take the advantage of being able to hog his computer. I want to have use of his big screen, because then I don't have to stress my eyes so much while I'm writing. Since I have a ton (actually just 21) of non-written blog posts I want written, I'm guessing it might take all day. Maybe all weekend. But that's okay, I'm going to take it slow, and otherwise just enjoy the weekend. Hope you too can take advantage of something at home (like an unoccupied couch, or being able to knit in peace, or finally getting to hog the TV remote) , and treat yourself to some laziness! You've earned it too, I'm sure. I kno...

Some summer cleaning?

Image
We have had couch surfers, friends and relatives over for visits during odd days the last few weeks. That's nice, because before all of it I was feeling really unsocial and cooped up in our apartment. Now, I feel like I'm this horrible person who doesn't even bother to clean her house. Not even when her MOM phones out of the blue and says "We'll all be coming for a visit tomorrow at 11 a.m". The only thing that went through my mind during that call was "Argh, my desk is a mess, and I need to put away all the scrap fabrics". Which I didn't do. Instead, I put away things that I had used in Mikael's room. So: the apartment is dusty as heck the vacuum cleaner is hiding in the closet, and it's alternating between hunger striking and threatening me with sucking up all my current "on hold" craft project until I put then away safely. every plant and green thing is screaming for water the trellises on the balconies are covered with...

Today's news and print screen

Image
On my brother's blog, he posted today a short note on how he definitely should clean up the trash box on his computer more often. While reading this, I glanced on the YLE-widget he has in the right column. Today's print screen. Follow the red arrow. While the people in Japan desperately fight to save peoples lives and stop their nuclear reactors from going into meltdown, and the people of Libya are fighting for their lives, Finland's railway corporation announces that they'll be lowering the prices of 30-day tickets (by 20 %). Oh, the irony of news.

It's raining outside again

I remember waking up real early today because of the rain. We had the window open during the night, so our whole bedroom got cold. I think I must start using blanket + bed sheet again, instead of just the latter. Finally we're getting colder air here! Anyway, now (late afternoon) it's raining again. Looking out through the windows here at the library, I can see an odd assortment of umbrellas. People are apparently starting to get home from work, and they don't want to get wet. Me? I'm gonna sit right here, writing, until it's time to head for Ida with Mimi's stuff. I've had some of her arts&crafts things at our place, but now that she's finally moved, I can bring it all back home to her. I just hope I found everything, because even the 'few' thing I found filled an entire shoe box. Oh, speaking about shoes! Yesterday, while taking the bike to Citymarket to do some grocery shopping, I found that they had a LOT of summer shoes on sale for ...

Trip to IKEA

Image
Trip to IKEA with P and Micke turned out okay. If you've never been to this "modern church of Swedish interior decorating" (my Dad's words, not mine *), then you should be told BEFORE you visit one of these stores that the layout of the place ENCOURAGES you to walk through the ENTIRE store. No matter if the things you really need are at the end, you still have to walk through it all. You can - literally - spend HOURS in IKEA. Unless you plan beforehand and already know where everything is and not to "fall" for all the little things along the way. Like the "Oh-my-goodness-this-thingamob-doesn't-cost-more-than-1euro-Oh-I'll-take-it!" or the "This-might-come-in-handy-someday-no-matter-that-it's-made-of-recycled-paper/bananaleaves/plastic"... I fell today. For a red pizzaslicer, some photo holders and some red boxes at the "bargain bin"-department.... * My Dad is funny like that. It was kinda funny, and also kinda...

*sound of something falling on the floor*

I know I haven't written anything of late - I haven't been obnoxiously busy as such, but I really wanted to write something crafty and not something that's just general thinking out loud . Oh well, they say the road to Hell is paved with good thoughts anyway... So, we've been thinking about getting me a desk. The problem with getting a desk is: where to put it, and how much to willingly pay for it? Obvious place to put it is in the living room (makes for a place filled with clutter, one that has to be cleared away each time we have a VIP over (like e.g. Micke's mom...). The not so obvious place is in Micke's workroom*, but then we'd have to manage to coexist and work in the same room. Let me tell you, neither room is great to put a desk in. And I hate that it is so. Because of a lot of other reasons than the ones above. Better would be not to get a desk at all. Would be cheaper too. Even though a potential candidate would cost 39€ at IKEA . Next problem ...

My mental to-do list

In the legend of King Arthur, one of the stories is about how  " a woman's highest wish is to be able to decide for herself ". What more could anyone ask, but to be able to choose for yourself? To always be yourself. - me

Google Reader... and then just about reading in general

Hi folks, Been kinda lost in space here for a while now. My bad, but now I at least feel the need to write something. Here we go :) There's so many amazing things you can do via your Google-account these days. I just realized that I don't need to scroll through a ton of bookmarks or RSS-feeds to see whats new - Google Reader takes care of that for me! Sweet... So, I've just spent maybe 10 min setting it up for me, and so far I like what I see. Not too complex - as in "oh me gosh I don't need to read too much to understand this" - but still versatile enough. What else.... Yeah, I found out this about the G-Reader actually by accident. Went web-surfing and found this really hilarious romance-novel-spoiler-blog and just read through a few (OK, a LOT. Happy?) of the posts. Since I hadn't read a lot of the books, I just enjoyed the way the posts themselves had been written. Couldn't stop laughing. Absolutely awsum , for lack of a more perfect comment. Wha...

MySpace = My desk

My desk is actually one end of the table in our living room. Everytime we're having visitors, or a party, or when there's a "project" to be done, I have to remove ALL my things. "My things" being what one would need on ones desk: computer, books, pens and paper, and of course the ubiquitous other "clutter" that somehow manages to creep up on the table while I'm not looking. Old newspapers, e.g. Lately, this has begun to really bother me *sigh* but there is really nothing that I can do about it, since the other room is M's "work" room (actually, it's more like a COMPUTER GAME room...). I need to get myself a desent lamp for 'my desk', now my eyes hurt. That's what you get when you have tear ducts that don't produce enough liquid, I suppose.
