Stash update March 2019

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think this listing one stash update per month is a bit better than listing them each separately. I think it might make me more consistent with trying to stay under 40 euros a month on quilting supplies. Since I'm still trying to get better from having that slipped disc in my spine, there hasn't been a lot of walking/shopping I've wanted to do. But, since the Hand Pieced QAL is still underway, and me wanting to quilt both the Discovery and Defiant quilts by hand, as well as sew all the blocks etc for both, I needed to go get at least some more supplies. At Halonen, I got some more spray baste and I also found that they had needle grippers for sale. At Eurokangas I got enough polyester batting for one more color block quilt. At Folkhälsan Retro Bazaar, I found more embroidery floss. And I also got some more fabric scraps out of  the Arbis fabric stash. I also bought an ergonomic crochet hook from my friend Tua, becaus
Hand Pieced QAL 2019 - second set of blocks (9)
Here’s my alternate version of Block 9 in the Hand-Pieced QAL. Block 9 Block info: the Emmeline-block, or a  Sawtooth Star block with a Double Pinwheel center . every fabric for this came from the stash at Arbis, because I got inspired by the three solids and one flower fabric someone had donated. One peach, one pale pink, one light violet, and one large print flower fabric in total. block cut with regular rotary cutter + rulers, then sewn with Gutermann Mara 120 (100% polyester) in color 1. link to block construction post link to link-up blog post Cutting the fabric pieces for the double pinwheel center, I tried to fussy cut the flower-fabric into parts so that only one of the four colors was visible. It gave me a pinwheel with green, blue, pink and yellow parts. I think it turned out quite well.  Even if the center of those pinwheels seams didn't get able to spin as well as the Emmeline-block in the Discovery quilt... I've alrea
Hand Pieced QAL 2019 - block 9
Here’s my version of Block 9 in the Hand-Pieced QAL. Block info: the Emmeline-block the dusky pink fabric and the brown fabric with the large flower prints were both thrift store find and I had yardage of it in my stash. the light brown with golden details is all the larger pieces I still had left of that fabric. the solid brown was from the stash at Arbis, and was supposed to substitute for the one mentioned above. the white with golden details came from my FQ stash. block cut with regular rotary cutter + rulers, then sewn with Gutermann Mara 120 (100% polyester) in color 1. link to block construction post link to link-up blog post I couldn't fit the very last little piece of the brown-with-gold-details fabric on this block, which was a bit sad. I would have liked to be able to use up that tiny piece and be able to say that "I used up ALL of that fabric". You can see the piece in the bottom of this photo. Otherwise, I think I manag
Here’s my version of Block 8 in the Hand-Pieced QAL. Block info: the Bess-block the dusky pink fabric and the brown fabric with the large flower prints were both thrift store find and I had yardage of it in my stash. the light brown with golden details is all the larger pieces I still had left of that fabric. the solid brown was from the stash at Arbis, and was supposed to substitute for the one mentioned above. the white with golden details came from my FQ stash. block cut with regular rotary cutter + rulers, then sewn with Gutermann Mara 120 (100% polyester) in color 1. link to block construction post link to link-up blog post I must say, having the sheet of sandpaper taped (with double-sided tape) on to this red tray really helps with keeping the different small fabric pieces in line. It also makes it more portable. I also like to think I've become better at making the seams more uniform and get nicely pressed. I usually hit the 6.
Here’s my alternate version of Block 7 and 8 in the Hand-Pieced QAL. Block 7 Block info: the Eula-block, or Sawtooth Star block with a Diamond in a Square center and snowballed corners. I had already sewn the darker pink sashing on this one when I took the photo. every fabric for this came from the stash at Arbis, because I got inspired by the three solids and one flower fabric someone had donated. Here’s my alternate version of Block 5 and 6 in the Hand-Pieced QAL. Block 5 Block info: the Dorothy-block, or Ohio Star block every fabric for this came from the stash at Arbis, because I got inspired by the three solids and one flower fabric someone had donated. One peach, one pale pink, one light violet, and one large print flower fabric in total. block cut with regular rotary cutter + rulers, then sewn with Gutermann Mara 120 (100% polyester) in color 1. link to block construction post . I deliberately turned the outer HSTs of this block so the print fabric faced inwards. In the other quilt (Discovery) they're facing outwards. link to link-up blog post Block 6 Block info: the Florence-block, or Sawtooth Star block with a Pinwheel in the center I totally forgot to take a photo of it before I had started sewing on the sashings, that's why it has the start on a pink border around it. every fabric for this came from the stash at Arbis
